The copper roof and guttering add a touch of luxury that will age beautifully, eventually developing a unique green patina that blends beautifully with the context.

Inside, the room is wrapped in a continuous skin of vertical wooden stained slats that emphasise the ceiling height while their rhythm creates a sense of calm and comfort. The stand alone wood burning stove is tucked into the corner, acting as the heart of the home and a cozy focal point for meals on cold evenings.

The large picture window is designed to frame the silver birches outside, and as the garden matures, bring the seasonal colours of nature directly into the living space. The deep, built-in sofa that stretches across the main window, provides ample hidden storage and allows you to feel as though you are sitting right in the garden while remaining in the warmth of the home. By the garden entrance, a slender wooden screen creates an intimate "transition" between the garden and the home.

This project transforms the back garden of a traditional Victorian terrace into a cosy, teahouse-like sanctuary. Through careful proportions, layered screening, and a restrained palette of natural timber and copper, we created a compact dining space that feels contemplative, intimate and quietly connected to the garden.
