Clementine's Loft

This project involves the sensitive addition of a master suite within the loft of a Victorian terrace. The challenge was to create a sense of expansive, high-end luxury while navigating the restricted heights and sloping angles of the original roof. By opening up the front to the rear of the roof, we transformed an underused attic into a light-filled sanctuary that feels completely removed from the bustle of the house below.

The interior is designed as a sequence of calm, interconnected spaces that prioritise relaxation and natural light. Large-format windows stretch across the width of the dormer front, framing panoramic views of the surrounding treetops.

A wide opening connects the bedroom to a dedicated bathing area. Here, a monolithic bathtub sits directly under twin skylights inviting views of the night sky. The white-washed timber floorboards and matching wall paneling create a seamless, tactile environment that feels both warm and contemporary.

From the street, the extension is designed to be a sharp, contemporary intervention that respects its historic context.The exterior is clad in a dark, vertically-seamed zinc. This choice of material contrasts the traditional London stock brick and slate tiles, giving the house a modern silhouette.

By carefully calculating the dormer’s position, we maximised internal standing room and daylight without overwhelming the original scale of the terrace, providing an optimised solution for a commonly found urban site constraint.
